A Ripple of Strength – How Self-Defense Changes a Community
The Prabodhini Self-Defence training reached 1,466 girls and women in the year 2024, 66 trainings were conducted.
This training—so simple it might appear—has a magic effect to a whole community. It sparked a quiet but powerful transformation. The confidence and strength these girls gained quickly spread—over 6,880 other girls, inspired by their friends and classmates, began to change too, simply by observing their behavior.
Boys noticed as well. Around 3,000 of them were indirectly affected, many asking for training themselves. Seeing the girls’ confidence and assertiveness led to more respectful behavior and a shift in school dynamics.
Also at home, the impact was remarkable. Over 2,000 men were indirectly influenced by the changed behavior of their wives and daughters. Women reported feeling less fear—and with that, violence in the home decreased. Some men even expressed relief, saying they felt calmer knowing the women in their lives were stronger and more self-assured.
One woman shared: “Before, I was afraid of my husband. Now, he sees I’m not afraid anymore.”
From schools to homes, a new atmosphere of dignity, safety, and mutual respect is growing—sparked by the simple yet powerful act of learning self-defense.
