Self Defence for 1000 young girls in Nagpur, India

On the second of December, we celebrate Giving Tuesday all around the world—a day of generosity, hope, love, recognition, and appreciation. The beginning of the last month of the year marks a season in which we celebrate kindness and compassion in many different ways. Let’s dedicate this time to sharing with those who need our support.

Children from marginalised communities in India are among those who have little chance of escaping their disadvantaged circumstances without the help of people who are able—and willing—to share.

Thanks to the dedication of the Prabodhini team, girls from disadvantaged families are gaining access to something truly empowering: self-defence training that strengthens both body and spirit.

Take Aleika, for example. She attends the Mukbadhir School in Amravati, a school for deaf children who often face many challenges in their daily lives. Girls in particular are frequently seen as easy targets, making them especially vulnerable to bullying and harassment.
For Aleika, discovering her own strength and realising that she can now stand up for herself has opened a completely new chapter in her life.

Narami, a tenth-grade student at the Rabindranath Tagore School, shares a similar story. Through the training, she has gained a new sense of confidence—one that helps her feel safe and empowered in difficult situations.
