In many marginalized communities in India, women grow up believing that violence at home is something they must endure. Mothers and older women often tell them, “We went through the same.” Many women fear that speaking out could mean losing their home or family, and some have nowhere else to go.
Sheela, a young woman from Maharashtra, shared: “I was living my life, but it was a fearful life. Every day I heard news about violence against women and girls, and I felt unsafe.”
After attending our selfdefence training, everything changed. “Now I live with confidence,” she says. “I am no longer afraid.”
