In the Land of Promise, Hope Begins

"Land of Promise"

In the upper area of Payatas, Quezon City stands a public school whose name carries quiet meaning. Lupang Pangako Elementary School - literally translated as Land of Promise Elementary School -serves children growing up in one of the most economically challenged communities in Metro Manila. Here, where families navigate uncertainty every day, education becomes one of the few promises parents can hold on to for their children’s future.

Between November and December 2025, through your support and GlobalGiving’s partnership with Haligi ng Bata, Inc. (HBI), 500 Kindergarten and Grade 1 learners from Lupang Pangako Elementary School received school bags, notebooks, pencils, and essential school supplies. Teachers also received instructional materials and educational toys to strengthen classroom learning and help young students build confidence during their earliest years in school.

In the Land of Promise, something as simple as a school bag becomes more than an object - it becomes a symbol of possibility.

Anchel’s Story: A Valentine’s Card Full of Love and Promise

Among the children who received support is Anchel, a five-year-old Kindergarten student.

Anchel does not live with her parents. Her mother has passed away, and her father now lives with another family. She is being raised by her grandmother, Remy, whom she lovingly calls “Mommy.” At over 60 years old, Mommy Remy works as an on-call massage therapist, accepting work whenever it becomes available. Some days bring income. Many do not. Still, she continues, because her grandchildren depend on her.

Their home is small, but filled with warmth and quiet devotion. Near the window hangs one of Anchel’s most treasured drawings - a handmade Valentine’s Day card. Colored carefully with crayons and surrounded by hearts, it reads: “Happy Valentine’s, I love you Mommy.”

For Remy, that card is more than a drawing. It is a glimpse of the child she is raising and the future she hopes to protect.

Anchel loves to draw and write, filling pages with shapes, letters, and imagination. She dreams of becoming a teacher one day, so she can guide children the same way her teachers guide her now. At school, she is lively, curious, and eager to learn.

During the November–December 2025 school supply distribution at Lupang Pangako Elementary School, Anchel received her own school bag and learning materials. For her grandmother, this meant relief and reassurance.

“It’s a big help,” Mommy Remy shares quietly. “It lessens the burden.”

For families like theirs, these supplies represent stability. Your support allows children to focus on learning instead of worrying about what they lack.

Strengthening Classrooms, Supporting Futures

The distribution reached 500 young learners, ensuring that Kindergarten and Grade 1 students had the materials needed to fully participate in school. Teachers also received instructional materials and educational toys, helping create classrooms where learning is engaging, interactive, and supportive.

For many families, this became one of the rare school years when parents could be confident that their children had sufficient supplies to last throughout the school term. The distribution eased a recurring source of stress and allowed students to focus fully on their education.

These simple interventions create lasting impact - not only by supporting individual students like Anchel, but by strengthening entire classrooms and school communities.

Looking Ahead

HBI remains committed to reaching children in underserved communities like Payatas, ensuring that early learners receive the support they need during their most critical developmental years. It is the project's fervent hope that equipping students and teachers with essential tools will help transform the promise of education into something real and attainable.

In the Land of Promise, hope does not arrive all at once. It begins quietly - in a classroom, in a school bag, in a child who dares to dream.

Thank You

To our GlobalGiving donors - thank you for making this possible. Because of your generosity, 500 young learners at Lupang Pangako Elementary School now walk into their classrooms with confidence and dignity. Children like Anchel can continue learning, creating, and believing in their future.

In the Land of Promise, your support is helping that promise come true.
