Their future begins in the classroom

By Donatien Ndizeye | M&E Leadre

Overview

Send Them Back to School is an educational support initiative developed to assist 45 underprivileged children and young adults in Kicukiro District, Kigali. The primary objective is to reduce the barriers to education caused by poverty and lack of resources, ensuring every child has an opportunity to thrive academically.

This initiative targets:

  • 40 children in primary and secondary schools
  • 5 young adults are currently pursuing higher education at the university level

The project will directly support these beneficiaries by:

  • Covering full or partial tuition fees
  • Providing essential school supplies (uniforms, stationery, books, backpacks, etc.)
  • Supplying laptops and learning materials to university students to support their academic success.

Project Status

Although the project was conceptualized and fully developed two years ago (in 2023),

funds are still limited. Despite its clear importance and the urgent need within the targeted communities, insufficient funding remains the primary barrier to launching the initiative.

Objectives of the Project

  • Ensure access to quality education for 40 underprivileged children.
  • Support 5 university students with the tools and materials required to succeed.
  • Reduce dropout rates and enhance academic performance in the Kicukiro District.
  • Promote equal education opportunities regardless of economic background.

Challenges Faced

  • Funding Constraints: No significant financial contributions have been secured to date, making it impossible to initiate procurement of school supplies or pay tuition fees.
  • Lack of Sponsorship: Difficulty in attracting committed sponsors or long-term donors to sustain the program.
  • Rising Costs: The Increasing cost of educational materials and technology has widened the funding gap since the project was first proposed.

Call to Action

We are appealing to:

  • Donors
  • Philanthropists
  • Corporate sponsors
  • Community members
  • NGOs and Development Partners

to support this life-changing initiative.

Your contribution, no matter the size, can transform a child's future. A small act of generosity today can lead to a brighter, more empowered generation tomorrow.

Conclusion

Education is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

The "Send Them Back to School" project has the potential to change lives, strengthen families, and uplift the community. We urge all well-wishers and supporters of education to stand with us and bring this project to life.
