Challenge

There are more than 106,000 orphans in Ukraine, and there are thousands of orphans around our location alone (Transcarpathia)! Many of them live in large state-run boarding schools. Up 92% have one or more parents meaning that most children in Ukrainian orphanages are "social orphans", institutionalized due to economic or legal reasons. War in Ukraine has greatly exasperated the situation, creating more orphans and scattering families all over the region.

Solution

Your support of Shade for Children provides- services and support for families-in-crisis and helps transition institutionalized kids back to their families, advocacy for domestic adoption and foster care, mobilizing and training for orphanage volunteers, and safe, healthy camp experiences for orphaned and vulnerable children, including children displaced by the war.

Long-Term Impact

Families restored and children living complete and healthy childhoods. Here's an impact story. We're helping a four generation family- grandmother, mother, daughter, and granddaughter, all living in a dilapidated apartment. Then the apartment burned, the mother died, and the burden became too great for the grandmother. We've helped restore the apartment to a livable condition, we've helped move the grandmother to a care facility, now we're helping the mother care for her child.
