In recent months, the Wayuu Taya Foundation has continued its commitment to empowering Wayuu women as pillars of family and community well-being. Through a series of educational and health-focused gatherings, women actively participated, shared their experiences, and strengthened their roles as caregivers, educators, and community leaders.
We held three community sessions across Mara Municipality, bringing together a total of 105 participants, mostly Wayuu women accompanied by their children or family members. These events created safe, supportive spaces where women could grow personally while also supporting their families’ development.
One key session brought together 38 women to focus on family health, covering topics such as childhood nutrition, hygiene, mental health, and preventive care. These mothers and caregivers exchanged knowledge, built trust, and left equipped to share health practices within their communities.
In a dedicated education workshop, 35 women explored how to support early learning at home. From storytelling to creative play, they discovered simple yet powerful tools to stimulate their children’s development, reinforcing the vital role they play in shaping future generations.
The final session took place in the Los Lechozos community, where 32 women participated in an oral health workshop. They received practical guidance on hygiene, early prevention, and how to encourage healthy habits among children and other family members.
Each participant received a wellness kit, which included vitamins, hygiene supplies, and early learning materials. So they could immediately apply what they learned at home.
These sessions highlight Wayuu women as key drivers of family and community well-being. By strengthening their access to education and health resources, we help build more resilient and informed households.
Your continued support allows us to expand these efforts and deliver practical tools that create a lasting impact in the lives of Wayuu families. We are grateful for your trust.
Thank you!
