Thank you for supporting Orbis. You have done an amazing thing to help those at immediate risk of permanent blindness. Today, thanks to the generosity of GlobalGiving, you can do even more. Every donation made today will be matched* by GlobalGiving.
Why help?
Thousands of people are currently suffering with the chronic, painful and blinding disease, trachoma, in southern Ethiopia. However, thanks to your support, Orbis can treat the infection with a simple eye surgery.
Orbis trains the eye care workers who are intregal in the elimination of blinding trachoma. Seifu Wanaka, from Southern Ethiopia is just one of these eye care workers.
Before becoming an Outreach Eye Care Worker with Orbis, Seifu worked as a nurse and would transport the Orbis trained Eye Care Workers around the community so they could meet their patients. These Eye Care Workers noticed Seifu’s passion for eye health and suggested he receive Orbis training to become a certified Eye Care Worker himself.
What motivates Seifu? He says:” Orbis has trained me very well. I remember a lady I treated, she was almost blind and in agony all the time. She found it hard to look after her children and do her work. I performed the surgery and it went well on both eyes.
Now she can work, look after her family and every time I go to that village she asks me to eat with them. I am devoted to making blinding eye disease history"
Thank you for supporting this project. Together we will continue to restore sight to those at immediate risk of blindness.
Help more children like Bonsa. Donate on GlobalGiving today and join us in making the prevention and elimination of trachoma a reality!
*Each donation made today will be matched by 40% as part of GlobalGiving’s Bonus Day.
