Socio-Economic Empowerment of Women In Nepal

During the reporting period (April 01, 2025 – September 30, 2025), total 184 women took new loans from group fund and trust fund and started income generating activities. Among which 94 of them are involved in Goat raising, 24 (Vegetable farming), 13 (Snack shop), 5 (Auto rickshaw), 28 (Tailoring), 3 (Bangles), 4 (Duck raising), 8 (Sweets shop), 2 (Cosmetics Shop), 1 (Poultry farming) and 2 (Cow raising). As women members are actively involved in various income generating activities, they have been able to save regularly within their groups, send their children to school, contribute to household expenses, and become economically empowered.

Capacitated Women leaders
In Haripur, Sarlahi, the tailoring training is being led by motivator Hasina, while in Janaki WAG, Dhanusha, one of the members, Urmila, is independently providing the training to other women members. Their efforts show how women are stepping forward to share their knowledge and skills, empowering fellow members and inspiring them to take similar initiatives in the future. This approach has also made the training more practical, easier to understand, and highly motivating for other women members.
Similarly, after participating in the training, eight women from Haripur, Sarlahi (five from Dipjyoti WAG and three from Janabhawana WAG) have also bought tailoring machines and started stitching clothes on their own in their community. They have begun earning money and supporting their families, showing real examples of women learning, growing, and empowering one another.

Enhanced visibility of SEWAM women leaders

Members of various women’s groups are actively involved in skills development, employment, leadership, and community service. Shobha, Secretary of Janajagriti WAG participated in a three-month off-season vegetable farming training supported by the municipality, enhancing her agricultural skills. Amrita from Dipjyoti WAG is enrolled in a three-month municipal self-employment program, where she receives two hours of daily training and works four hours per day, earning a monthly income of Rs.25,000. Similarly, Sabitri  from Namuna WAG has been elected as the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Kumroj Community Forest User Group, demonstrating her leadership in community forest management. In addition, Somi from Aldada WAG and Lalita of Rajdevi WAG are serving as a volunteer, showing her commitment to community service. These examples highlight the ongoing efforts of women to strengthen their livelihoods and contribute to their communities. 

Betterment of livelihood of Women through organic vegetable farming

Amrika, Ranju, Parmeshwori of Rajdevi Sada has been doing organic vegetable farming by taking loans from group fund. Amrika, took a loan of Rs. 15,000 from her group, and started vegetable farming by taking 1 katha land on lease. She has cultivated the seeds of potatoes, onions, and tomatoes in her farm. Every year, she pays Rs. 4000 to the landowner. Recently, by cultivating onion seeds worth Rs. 3,000 in her land, she harvested around 900 kgs onion and sold in the market. Together with her husband, Amrika sells onions and other vegetables every day in the market and usually earn around Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4000 daily. Similarly, Ranju and Parmeshwori also has taken Rs.10,000 and Rs.29,000 loan from the group fund and done vegetable farming by taking land on lease.
