The flame of the future lives in 42 communities

By Isabel Tafur | Arquitecta de futuros

The spark is still alive: this is how the Library of the Future blooms

Dear friend,

A few weeks ago, we received unexpected news: the global shutdown of USAID operations and the early termination of thousands of initiatives that, like ours, were benefiting communities affected by conflict around the world. For us in particular, it meant the end of a journey that since 2022 had taken us to over 40 communities, where we walked through rural villages, set up labs in the mountains, sparked questions, and wove networks of trust and learning.

But, as the communities themselves have taught us: when one door closes, we open many others. Although USAID is no longer with us, our commitment remains as strong as it was on day one. And we are not alone. Since then, we’ve knocked on new doors—and many have begun to open. We are building partnerships with new allies and donors who, like us, believe in the power of big questions and in transforming territories from within communities.

Some of these new resources are still just seeds, but we know that with the care of our network—and friends like you—they can grow and flourish. The call is clear: to keep strengthening the Library of the Future and to keep nurturing the flame within our communities.

The dream of 40 SOLE Labs is more than just a number. It’s a living network of children, youth, women, and elders who come together to explore the world from their own land, at their own pace, guided by big questions. It’s a community that no longer depends on our physical presence—but still needs tools, connectivity, technical support, and above all, to know they are not alone.

That’s why today we invite you to continue being part of this movement. Every donation on GlobalGiving brings us closer to making the Library of the Future a reality. We want 2025 to be the year we show that collaboration is a fabric woven by committed people.

What’s next?

  • We will strengthen alliances with regional actors so that each community can sustain their space.
  • We will expand our virtual training resources to continue supporting from a distance.
  • And in August, we will host a national gathering with SOLE Ambassadors to boost their leadership and share their stories.

We know challenges are coming, but we also know that the fire we helped ignite in these communities doesn’t go out easily. It transforms, it multiplies—and sometimes, it only takes a spark from afar to light it again.

Thank you for being that spark. Your support makes it possible for the Library of the Future to keep growing—in every corner of Colombia.

With gratitude,

The SOLE Colombia Foundation Team

Y no estamos solos.
