The Future's Library: 40 SOLELabs around Colombia

We continue building this collective story that began with a simple question: what does the Library of the Future look like?

During the past months, the SOLE Colombia team embarked on a new journey to the three territories that have been an essential part of this dream: Boca de Camarones in La Guajira, and Dominguillo and El Tambo in Cauca. We went to reconnect with the SOLE Ambassadors, with the communities that have kept their SOLE Labs alive, and with the learnings that emerge every time we sit down to talk, to ask, and to create together.

In Boca de Camarones, the reunion was full of curiosity and experimentation. Throughout the day, we carried out activities to strengthen the use of technology and spark collective creativity. The workshop “Boost your phone signal with a can” unleashed ingenuity and amazement among those who dared to build handmade antennas to improve connectivity. Then, with “Tinker with your phone to share the internet”, we explored ways to make the most of available technology to keep people connected. The day closed with a beautiful exercise: drawing “the sound of the sea”, a metaphor for how each person interprets their surroundings and turns them into learning.

In Dominguillo, the atmosphere was one of celebration and reflection. We began with the question “How would you enrich the Library of the Future?” which opened a deep conversation about the dreams, needs, and ideas the community wants to keep nurturing. Then came a joyful karaoke session, a perfect excuse to laugh, share, and reconnect through joy. The afternoon was dedicated to “Recharge Menus”: creative exercises where participants imagined their territory, shared life experiences with technology, and built visual maps using yarn, colors, and paper. It was a moment of mutual energy, of feeling part of something that grows with every encounter. The women weavers were at the center of it all, their dedication and care keep the essence of the SOLE Lab alive. Although challenges remain, Dominguillo vibrates with autonomy, organization, and trust.

In El Tambo, the visit became an experience of listening, reconnection, and shared learning. The day began with the arrival of a group of more than 30 students and two teachers from a nearby school, many of whom had never entered the SOLE Lab before. With them, we carried out the activity “Getting to Know Each Other with SOLE”, a participatory session where the children chose their own questions and explored answers together. It was a moment full of enthusiasm, laughter, and discovery; by the end, they proudly shared that they had learned in a different, more enjoyable, and more engaging way. In the second part of the day, we met with community leaders to reflect on the challenges and future of the space. We used the Future Design methodology an exercise that opened deep conversations about governance, leadership, and the sustainability of the SOLE Lab.

A key moment in this journey has been the generous support from SCOR, one of the world’s largest reinsurers. Through their donation of computers, several communities have been able to strengthen their SOLE Labs. This contribution embodies SCOR’s commitment to innovation and resilience, values deeply aligned with SOLE Colombia’s mission to create spaces where technology and curiosity empower people to learn and connect.

Across all three territories, the “menu” exercises proved to be a powerful tool. Each community adapted it in their own way to reflect on their challenges, dreams, and the future they imagine for their spaces. These dynamics revealed what remains at the heart of the Library of the Future: the relationship between people, curiosity, and technology.

Each visit reminded us that creating and sustaining these spaces takes time, energy, and presence, but also that every encounter recharges us and reaffirms that what we’re building together goes far beyond connectivity. These are communities that recognize themselves, learn from one another, solve problems, and, question by question, are reinventing the way they live and learn.

And so, we continue weaving this story, one conversation at a time. The Library of the Future grows with every voice, every encounter, and every act of care. From La Guajira to Cauca, what is taking shape is more than a network of laboratories: it is a network of hope, collective learning, and technological autonomy blossoming in some of the most diverse and resilient corners of Colombia.

Tejiendo el Futuro: Conversaciones que Conectan Comunidades

Queridos amigos y amigas, 

Seguimos avanzando en la construcción de esta historia colectiva que comenzó con una pregunta: ¿cómo se ve una Biblioteca del Futuro?

 Durante agosto y septiembre, el equipo de SOLE Colombia emprendió un nuevo viaje hacia los tres territorios que han sido parte esencial de este sueño: Boca de Camarones en La Guajira; Dominguillo y El Tambo, en el Cauca. Fuimos a reencontrarnos con los Embajadores SOLE, con las comunidades que han mantenido vivos sus SOLE Labs, y con los aprendizajes que emergen cada vez que nos sentamos a conversar, a preguntar y a crear juntos.

En Boca de Camarones, el reencuentro estuvo lleno de curiosidad y experimentación. A lo largo del día, realizamos actividades para fortalecer el uso de la tecnología y despertar la creatividad colectiva. El taller “Mejora la señal de tu celular con una lata” desató el ingenio y asombro entre quienes se animaron a construir antenas artesanales para optimizar la conectividad. Luego, con “Cacharrea con tu celular para compartir internet”, exploramos formas de aprovechar la tecnología disponible para seguir conectando a otros. La jornada cerró con un ejercicio hermoso: dibujar “el sonido del mar”, una metáfora de cómo cada persona interpreta su entorno y lo transforma en aprendizaje.

En Dominguillo, el ambiente fue de fiesta y reflexión. Empezamos con la pregunta “¿Cómo enriquecerías la Biblioteca del Futuro?”, que permitió una conversación profunda sobre los sueños, las necesidades y las ideas que la comunidad quiere seguir impulsando. Luego vino el turno del karaoke, una excusa perfecta para reír, compartir y reconectarnos desde la alegría. La tarde estuvo dedicada a los “Menús de Recarga”: ejercicios donde las personas imaginaron su territorio, compartieron experiencias de vida con la tecnología y crearon mapas visuales con lana, colores y papel. Fue un momento de energía mutua, de sentirnos parte de algo que crece con cada encuentro. Las mujeres tejedoras fueron protagonistas: su constancia y cariño mantienen viva la esencia del SOLE Lab. Aunque persisten desafíos, Dominguillo vibra con autonomía, organización y confianza.

En El Tambo, la visita se transformó en una experiencia de escucha, reconexión y aprendizaje compartido. La jornada comenzó con la llegada de un grupo de más de 30 estudiantes y dos docentes de un colegio cercano, muchos de los cuales nunca habían entrado al SOLE Lab. Con ellos realizamos la actividad “Conocernos con SOLE”, una sesión participativa donde los niños eligieron sus propias preguntas y exploraron respuestas en equipo. Fue un momento lleno de entusiasmo, risas y descubrimiento: al finalizar, expresaron con orgullo que habían aprendido de una forma diferente, más divertida y cercana. En la segunda parte del día, nos reunimos con los líderes comunitarios para reflexionar sobre los retos del espacio y su futuro. Utilizamos la metodología de Diseño de Futuros, un ejercicio que permitió abrir conversaciones profundas sobre gobernanza, liderazgo y sostenibilidad del SOLE Lab.

Un momento clave en este camino ha sido el generoso apoyo de SCOR, una de las reaseguradoras más grandes del mundo. Gracias a su donación de computadores, varias comunidades han podido fortalecer sus SOLE Labs. Esta contribución refleja el compromiso de SCOR con la innovación y la construcción de resiliencia, valores profundamente alineados con la misión de SOLE Colombia de crear espacios donde la tecnología y la curiosidad empoderan a las personas para aprender y conectarse.

En los tres territorios, el ejercicio del “menú” fue una herramienta poderosa. Cada comunidad lo adaptó a su manera para reflexionar sobre sus retos, sueños y la manera en que imaginan el futuro de sus espacios. Las dinámicas nos permitieron observar algo que sigue siendo el corazón de la Biblioteca del Futuro: la relación entre las personas, la curiosidad y la tecnología.

Cada visita nos recordó que crear y sostener estos espacios requiere tiempo, energía y presencia, pero también que cada encuentro nos recarga y nos reafirma en la idea de que lo que estamos construyendo juntos va más allá de la conectividad. Son comunidades que se reconocen, que aprenden unas de otras, que resuelven problemas y que, pregunta tras pregunta, están reinventando su forma de vivir y aprender.

Así, seguimos tejiendo esta historia, una conversación a la vez. La Biblioteca del Futuro crece con cada voz, con cada encuentro, con cada acto de cuidado. Desde La Guajira hasta el Cauca, lo que se está gestando no es solo una red de laboratorios: es una red de esperanza, de aprendizaje colectivo y de autonomía tecnológica que florece en los lugares más diversos y resilientes de Colombia.
