We want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your donation to the South Korea Wildfire Relief Fund. Your donation continues to make a difference, supporting relief efforts and providing supplies, shelter, and psychosocial services and healing to communities affected by the wildfires.

With your support, GlobalGiving made three emergency grants since the launch of this fund in late Marchto twopartners in South Korea that are trusted, local nonprofit organizations on the front lines of the wildfire response in at least eighteen impacted communities. These emergency grants continue GlobalGiving's sustained support to South Korea, made possible by the generosity of donors like you.

Although relief from the wildfires in South Korea has been difficult, vetted GlobalGiving nonprofit partners are bringing hope and moving their communities forward. Here is a short description of some of the critical work your donation is already supporting:

  • Peace Winds Koreais a South Korean-based nonprofit providing humanitarian aid in partnership with A-PAD Korea, another GlobalGiving partner who also received a grant this round. Their  joint response team is working in 18 villages across Gyeongsangbuk-do, delivering emergency supplies—clothing, hygiene kits, and food—to over 800 people. The teams are currently beginning the shift to longer-term efforts like building semi-permanent housing and culturally grounded trauma care. Upcoming programs like Spring Again offer survivors the chance to retake cherished family portraits lost in the fire as a step toward healing.
  • Asia Pacific Alliance Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD Korea)is a South Korea-based, transnational alliance that weaves relationships between governments, businesses,  and NGOs in the Asia-Pacific region. In partnership with Peace Winds Korea, A-PAD is currently providing urgent support in Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, distributing essential items such as clothing and hygiene kits for firefighters and response teams, as well as hot meals for communities impacted by the wildfires.

I had the privilege of meeting both A-PAD Korea and Peace Winds Korea at their office space in Seoul, South Korea in May. Both teams shared immense gratitude for the continued support of donors like you, who have made it possible for local residents in rural communities impacted by the fires to feel a sense of community and support amidst upheaval and destruction.

Your support of the GlobalGiving South Korea Wildfire Relief Fund powers community-led relief and recovery, and it means that organizations like these and the communities they serve get the critical resources they need to rebuild after the devastating wildfires in South Korea.

With gratitude,

Alli + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
