During every spay campaign Animal Spay and Neuter International treats each and every animal holistically. Each dog or cat will receive complete veterinary care where the need arises. If we are unable to treat the animal on site then it will be transported back to the Center of Hope Animal Hospital for treatment under “The Homeless Animal Project”. This is a free service for all animals including owned dogs or cats for those that cannot afford veterinary fees and funded by donations from the general public.
At a campaign our team may come across all sorts of situations especially including stray dogs or cats which have been gathered by the team prior to the “Spayathon” ( a name given to mass spay campaigns) If a dog comes in covered in fleas and ticks and very matted then the painstaking work begins: shaving the dog, taking ticks off one by one, deflea treatment, cleaning ears, clipping nails and bathing them if very dirty. This all takes a great deal of staff other than the Veterinary Team and volunteers will be on hand to do such work
If a puppy is found on a campaign, then vaccinations will be given and essentially worming treatment as stray pups are generally full of worms. The puppy will be transported back to a shelter managed by our partners “Stiching Le Woef” and taken care of by Stefan who runs the shelter until old enough to be spayed/neutered. He/she will then be found a home in the Netherlands by Stiching Le Woef
No animal will be taken back to the streets unless a home would not be the best option for them. If they are quite feral for instance and have to be darted with sedatives to be brought to the campaign. A street life may be all they are able to tolerate.
