Threads of Creativity: STEAM in Action

By Tshepo Alec Paledi | Resource Mobilization Contractor

Introduction to designing!
Introduction to designing!

At Stepping Stones International, we believe in unlocking potential through innovation and creativity. Recently, we partnered with Kgamanyane Junior Secondary School’s and Molefi Senior Secondary Art Teachers to deliver a unique STEAM-inspired experience for our beneficiaries.

The project was not just about printing designs on t-shirts; it was a hands-on journey through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics:
• Science: Understanding the chemistry behind inks and fabrics—why certain pigments bond better and how heat sets the print.
• Technology: Using printing tools and techniques to transfer designs onto t-shirts.
• Engineering: Setting up the printing stations, calibrating block presses, and troubleshooting equipment.
• Arts: Expressing creativity through original designs that reflect identity and culture.
• Mathematics: Measuring dimensions, calculating placement, and ensuring symmetry for professional-quality prints.

This STEAM approach gave youth practical skills and entrepreneurial insights. They learned how creativity intersects with technical knowledge, preparing them for future careers in design, fashion, and technology. Participants learned different techniques of printing /screen printing (hand-pulled),Block printing,Stencil printing. This workshop came in handy for those who are interested in pursuing vocational skills in the future. The excitement was tangible as participants proudly showcased their creations, proof that learning can be vibrant, relevant, and empowering.

Your support makes initiatives like this possible. Because of your generosity, youth at Stepping Stones International did not just learn art, they experienced STEAM in action. They discovered how creativity connects with science, technology, and entrepreneurship, giving them practical skills to build brighter futures.

Every t-shirt printed was more than fabric and ink, it was a symbol of confidence, innovation, and opportunity. With your continued support, we can expand these programs, provide more resources, and empower even more young people to turn their ideas into income-generating ventures.

Thank you for investing in creativity and education. Together, we are shaping a generation that thinks boldly and acts with purpose.
