Project Report | Jan 11, 2022
First quarter report COMAL Network

By Donaldo Zuniga Enamorado | Project Leader

On behalf of the farmers and indigenous families accompanied by Red COMAL, we thank you for all the support you have given us! Resources from this project were used to support small farmers and indigenous families in order to fight hunger, increase household income and build resilience to climate change by implementing more holistic and sustainable agricultural practices through agroecology, thus contributing to healthy nutrition in rural communities.

Main achievements:

  • Strengthened knowledge and capacities of 134 farmers and indigenous families. 40 families in the departments of La Paz and Comayagua cultivated plantains. 34 families from Lempira, Yoro and Santa Bárbara, diversified their plots with avocado and lemon crops, and 60 families from Intibucá and La Paz received support with vegetable seeds.
  • 15 families in Intibucá improved their chicken coops and 10 families in Taulabé received egg laying hens and materials to build chicken coops. 30 farming and indigenous families in La Paz implemented at least 5 practices and technologies to adapt to climate change in their productive units (wastewater filters for irrigation, cement tanks for water storage and drip irrigation systems).
  • 154 farming and indigenous families implemented agroecological practices through agroecological inputs (biofertilizers, calcium sulphate and Bocashi) for the management of their crops, thus reducing the use of chemicals and environmental pollution.

Thank you again for your generous support and commitment to communities in Honduras!
