 Third quarterly report for GlobalGiving

Project Title: Stop hunger for indigenous families in Honduras (53804)

The resources of this project have been used by Red COMAL to support peasant and indigenous families through the provision of equipment and materials for the establishment of crops of nutritional and commercial value. In this way it has contributed to the economic empowerment of peasant and indigenous women in western Honduras.

 Main achievements:

Strengthened installed capacities for agroecological production of peasant and indigenous families.

At least 11 families led by women received support through the provision of drip micro-irrigation systems for the establishment of family gardens. In addition, support was provided with short-cycle vegetable seeds, which have contributed to the families' diet and income generation through the sale of some products in local markets.

Technical assistance and follow-up has been provided to rural and indigenous women in their vegetable seedling production initiative. This process has contributed to the economic empowerment of the women because they are offering the service of seedling production to farmers in the community.

Indigenous women were accompanied to ensure access to market channels for marketing their products. The first peasant and indigenous market run by women was organized in the municipality of Intibucá. A tent and tables were delivered for the operation of this solidarity farmers' market.

We reiterate our gratitude to all donors and to GlobalGiving for their valuable economic support for the peasant and indigenous families associated with COMAL Network.
