2026: Learning Communities

2026 is the United States' 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Throughout the year, Stories Change Power will help people answer the question:

"How can I be part of making the United States just and peaceful for EVERYONE - without exception - in our next 250 years?"

In addition to our monthly webinars, short courses, and ongoing coalition work, we'll bring this question into our Learning Communities, a core program that you've helped make accessible.

As a supporter of this innovative program, I'm delighted to share with you that we've opened registration for two 2026 opportunities:

ONLINE: March 6-May 29, 2026

IN-PERSON: August 3-6, 2026

If you know someone who could benefit from a small-by-design group of fellow changemakers to learn Stories Change Power's Nine Rights framework for advocacy strategy, please encourage them to apply!

BIG & small

I hope summer has treated you well! At Stories Change Power, we have exciting updates since April - both big and small.

SMALL(ER)

Recognizing that not everyone can commit to our multi-month online or multi-day in-person Learning Communities, we launched two new short courses: Storytelling 101 and Ethical Storytelling. Both are 4 weeks each, and feedback has been incredibly positive. As we add additional short courses to the roster this fall, Learning Communities will remain a core offering to equip people with our Nine Rights framework. In every Community thus far, at least one person has needed financial support in order to attend. Thank you for making that possible.

BIG

As announced in our most recent newsletter, we launched an Intercultural Learning Lab to help address the polarization and distrust that are testing our 249-year-old democracy. The Lab's first project is The Brazilian Blueprint. In the words of our Lab's Director, Sheila Maloney, we're partnering with Brazilian leaders to "share strategies and exchange wisdom. We know two important truths: now is the time to imagine how the U.S. can rebuild and now is the time to learn to recoginze when there are opportunities for rebuilding."

P.S. It's been a joy to host 19 months of webinars to support people across the country in building their civic muscle. We offer these learning opportunities for free to ensure everyone can attend regardless of background or budget. Where to begin?

Speaking to college women about careers in policy

I blinked and it's April! Your support has already done so much this year to support effective, empathetic, and trusted advocates across the country.

Hopefully you're already receiving our every-other-Friday newsletter? If not, I encourage you to sign up today. Our latest edition included information about the National Week of Converation that kicks off today, Monday, April 21.

The newsletters are also a great way to keep up with our webinar series. Every month, we host a discussion to support people across the country (+ some international participants, too!) who want to advocate for a just and peaceful world, including via storytelling.

Earlier this year, we launched a new website to make it easier for people who want to make a difference in their neighborhoods, communities, and country. If you have feedback as you explore - or want us to address a particular topic in our insights section - we'd love to hear from you.

Our focus on bridging divides and supporting pro-democracy efforts intensifies every week. In addition to being a member of the Braver Angels network of organizations and part of the Democracy Communicators Collaborative, we're working on a major crosscultural opportunity - I look forward to sharing more about that soon.

A few weeks ago, I took an afternoon to speak with college women who had come to DC to learn more about careers in policy - as you'll see in the photo above.
