Bumi Sehat Aceh staff and their families still live in temporary wooden structures built after the 2004 tsunami. Many have been unable to rebuild homes or return to their land. To ensure stability and retain skilled healthcare workers, Bumi Sehat wants to provide secure, dignified housing. This project will build six permanent 2-bedroom family units on the clinic grounds, allowing staff to remain close to their work and community and sustaining loving, high-quality care for locals.
Many Bumi Sehat Aceh staff continue to live on-site with their families in temporary wooden buildings. Two decades later, a number of staff households have still not been able to regain stable housing due to the loss of homes and land. Because of these challenges, staff members depend on clinic-provided accommodation. If they have to relocate in search of secure housing, the clinic would face critical staffing shortages, reducing essential care in an already underserved region.
We will construct six 2-bedroom family units on the site to provide safe, permanent homes for staff and their families. Purpose-built housing will replace aging wooden structures never intended for long-term use. Each unit will give a family stability & privacy, remaining close to the clinic, & ensuring they continue serving the community without the financial burden of finding housing elsewhere. By meeting this essential need, Bumi Sehat can retain skilled midwives, nurses, and support staff.
Secure, permanent housing will keep dedicated staff in a rural area where recruiting and retaining qualified healthcare workers is difficult. By investing in long-term housing, the clinic strengthens workforce stability and protects continuity of care. With a reliable team in place, Bumi Sehat Aceh can continue providing thousands of prenatal visits, births, and general medical care, ensuring that families in this underserved region have access to compassionate, reliable healthcare.
