An update on your donation to the Sudan Emergency Relief Fund

By Kyra Zimmerman | Program Specialist

Dear Donor,

It has been nearly seven months since we shared an update with you. Since then, our Sudanese partners have been hard at work addressing the ongoing needs of their communities and the devastating consequences of sudden-onset disasters.

Just this month, a horrific landslide struck Darfur, leaving at many as 1,000 people dead. Most of those killed were already displaced and suffering from hunger after more than two years of brutal civil war. In El-Fasher, another part of Darfur, an estimated 260,000 civilians – including 130,000 children – are enduring extreme hunger. Many have been forced to survive on animal fodder known as ambaz, which is now running out. Simultaneously, a cholera outbreak has already infected thousands of people and caused 382 deaths since June 2025. While aid strives to reach those most in need, roadblocks, restrictions, and the weaponization of food supplies make it challenging.

Thankfully, our partners are from these communities and have strong local ties, making it possible to access areas others cannot. This is why your generous contributions to the Sudan Emergency Fund truly make a difference.

As we gear up for our fall grant round from our Sudan Emergency Fund, we are eager to resource our partners who are assisting communities, including:

  • People-to-People (PTP) continues its extensive campaign to combat cholera in displacement camps via mobile awareness training and decontaminating areas.
  • Sadagaat-USA  is providing cash assistance to families fleeing their homes from violence, and distributing non-food items.
  • Adeela is providing urgent aid and basic items to families in Darfur while collaborating closely with the Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) – a network of mutual aid groups across the country.

Your support for the GlobalGiving Sudan Emergency Fund is a lifeline for those in need, especially when conditions are worsened by events like this month’s landslide. We are profoundly grateful to you — your support makes everything we do possible.

We truly could not have achieved this without you and are excited to continue making a difference in the months to come.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
