English in Mind Institute (EIM) provides high quality, affordable English classes to adults in Port-au-Prince, along with job placement assistance.
It's been another challenging year in Haiti with continued insecurity and gang violence impacting much of Port-au-Prince, including our neighborhood of Clercine. Despite it all, EIM remains as strong as ever. From virtual exams to new book clubs, and the return of Saturday conversation classes, our small but mighty team continues to prove that education and community are two of the most powerful forces on earth.
We have a staff of 14 people who rely on the stable income EIM provides. We're raising money to keep these salaries going throughout the year, including during periods where we need to temporarily pause classes for security reasons. We are also raising money for our Emergency Fund that will enable us to provide extra support to staff members who experience medical emergencies or acts of theft and violence. We feel honored to have the opportunity to be there when it's needed most.
English in Mind is an educational oasis for 120 students and teachers striving for an edge in the employment world and beyond. In Haiti someone with a high school degree who speaks English will often be chosen for work over someone with a university degree who does not. It's just that powerful.
