This World Bee Day - May 20th - we celebrated the humble honeybee and its unexpected role in protecting elephants, empowering women, and securing livelihoods in Tanzania.
We’ve teamed up with Wild Survivors & Explore Foundation to install a ‘How Many Elephants’ beehive fence - that’s 50 hives and over 2 million wild bees - in the Ngorongoro Serengeti Ecosystem.
Why? To deter elephants from raiding crops in Tanzania.
At How Many Elephants - International NGO, we’re in awe of the impact our direct-action partners, Wild Survivors have made. Their beehive fences in the area have reduced human-elephant conflict by 90% - while protecting migratory routes and pollinating farmland.
Now we’re raising an additional £5,000 to fund another 1km.
Why it matters:
• Elephants are scared of bees
• Bees protect farms & food security
• Women-led co-ops harvest and sell the honey
• Native pollinators get a boost
• Conservation meets community development
This is conservation at its finest! - It’s non-lethal, nature-powered, and community-led.
Donate today and help us build more fences, train more women, and protect more elephants.
