Since October 2023, our community has suffered indescribable pain and loss. ASHTAR as a NGO was severely financially affected: some of the Western funding sources stopped working with Palestinian institutions, some of them requested us to return the funds as well as some of them, despite their insistance, are boycotted by us. This has completely changed the donors' landscape which had already been very challenging and placed ASHTAR Theatre in a very difficult situation.
ASHTAR, together with all members of Palestinian Performing Arts Network (PPAN) firmly stands against the conditional funding. ASHTAR's aim is to establish a strong community of supporters who believe in our mission of building on the legacy of 35 years of making an impact in Palestine and in the Palestinian diaspora.
ASHTAR aims to become a strong, fully independent organisation to be able to continue serving our people. Your contribution will help mitigate a loss of funding sources, help resist conditional funds, protect the Palestinian cultural identity, and allow for a solidarity-driven donations from individuals and instituations wo are aligned with ASHTAR's vision of independence and liberation, leading to a more ethical and sustainable donor base.
