Books Today, Leaders Tomorrow

By Freshta Karim | Founder

Dear Friend,

I want to share an update with you about our Books Today, Leaders Tomorrow campaign.  Not only did we meet our goal of raising $5,000—we exceeded it!  Thanks to your support, our Libraries, such as the Violet and Blue Vans, will continue to welcome girls and boys and support their learning journeys.

While there is still work to be done, I would like to share how your support is making a difference in the lives of Afghan children. Azita*, a 9-year-old frequent visitor to our Libraries, shared the following:

"When I came to the Library, I felt very happy and found a lot of friends. This Library is so beneficial for us and the benefit is that it has provided us the opportunity to learn and gain knowledge. Those children who cannot go to school, can read different books here. We are learning mutual respect and acceptance here."

Charmaghz not only provides a safe space for learning but also fosters an environment where every child is valued. Spaces like Charmaghz are critically needed right now, given the current policies around education—particularly as they pertain to girls. According to UNESCO, at least 1.4 million girls have been denied access to secondary education since 2021, and the dropout rate for primary-aged girls has also steadily increased.

Thanks to your support, we are able to provide education, critical thinking skills, and mental health support to children like Azita. On behalf of our team and Afghan girls and boys, we thank you for standing with us!

Warmest regards,

Freshta Karim
