Strides Made in Conservation!

By Morgan Domijan | Fundraising Manager

For the Conservation Education project, the students have been hard at work finishing up their last module. In return, 25 students went on an amazing field trip to Zala Park. They went on a nature walk, learned about plant and animal conservation, and did a great game of animal charades!

The kids have now started module 3. In Zanzibar, like other island locations around the world, is one of the most vulnerable to climate change and rising oceans. We taught our students about the effects of climate change by building a little “earth” out of sand and used frozen bottles of water to symbolize the world’s glaciers. Slowly during the lesson, the ice melted. The kids could observe how the land slowly flooded the paper houses and animals that we had built because of the “rising oceans” due to warming temperatures and melting glaciers. They were very interested to physically observe how global warming effects the planet slowly but steadily over time.

The ethical boat driver workshops have been going great with seven new participants! Additionally, three boat drivers graduated and we are so proud of them!

Thank you to eveyrone who has supported conservation efforts in Zanzibar - we are making tremendous steps forward!
