Project Update: Community Health Worker (CHW) Training in Pakistan – July 2025
We are pleased to share a progress update on our recent work in Pakistan, made possible through your generous support.
IHRI-Karachi – CHW Training
We are delighted to report that MAITS has successfully completed training for two cohorts of Community Health Workers (CHWs) at IHRI, with 15 CHWs in each cohort. Alongside them, approximately 9 therapists also received training. In total, 30 CHWs are now actively conducting home visits to support parents of children with disabilities in some of the most remote areas of Karachi.
We are currently preparing for the third cohort of CHWs. This training was originally scheduled for May 2025, but unfortunately had to be postponed due to the conflict between India and Pakistan. The situation led to significant disruption, affecting the availability of trainers and partner organisations.
Thankfully, the security situation has now improved, and we are moving forward with plans to conduct this training in July 2025. The upcoming session will be led by three MAITS Master Trainers and will include 15 CHWs and 6 therapists. This training, funded by EA, is designed with sustainability in mind, aiming to create local employment opportunities so that trained individuals can continue supporting families beyond the period of direct MAITS involvement.
The Talk Clinic – April 2025
In April, our partner organisation, The Talk Clinic in Hyderabad, Pakistan, delivered a comprehensive six-day CHW training programme. The sessions were led by Afshan Memon (MAITS Master Trainer) alongside Hafeez Punjani (MAITS Trainer), and were attended by 13 CHWs. These individuals are now equipped to support children with disabilities within their communities.
As part of the follow-up process, each CHW is currently working on gathering data and assessing the progress of at least five children. We eagerly await the final project report and the monitoring and evaluation feedback, which will provide valuable insights into the programme’s impact and areas for future enhancement.
Thank You
We remain deeply grateful for your continued support. Your contributions are making a real and lasting difference to children with disabilities and their families across Pakistan. We look forward to keeping you informed as the projects progress.
With warm regards,
The MAITS Team
