Dear friends,
We want to share an important update about Charmaghz and what’s ahead for our work.
After months of reflection and assessment, our team has made the difficult decision to say goodbye to our Mobile Libraries. This decision follows ongoing operational challenges that made it no longer feasible to continue running the Libraries.
This chapter of our journey is coming to a close, but our mission is not.
Charmaghz will continue its work under our U.S. 501c3 non-profit, The Freshta Foundation. We are now in the early stages of designing a new learning program, focused on online education for Afghan girls, that builds on our longstanding commitment to Afghan children. Our purpose remains the same: creating access to education, nurturing critical thinking, and defending every child’s right to imagine a better future.
Since 2018, your support has helped our Mobile Libraries reach over 1 million children, including 52% girls. These were not just numbers—they were moments of curiosity, connection, and joy that would not have been possible without people like you. Your belief in our vision made this work possible. And as we step into this next phase, your continued support means more than ever.
For over seven years, our Mobile Libraries brought learning into the streets of Kabul. But it was the children who brought those buses to life, filling them with questions, stories, and laughter. And it was your trust and generosity that carried that work forward, day after day.
As we move into this next phase, we are taking time to reflect, research, and listen. We are currently in the ideation phase of shaping our new program and plan to share more in the months ahead. We expect to announce the next chapter of our work by Spring 2026.
We will continue sending updates, and we hope you will walk with us in this journey-just as you have all these years. We do encourage you to reach out to us if you have any questions regarding our next steps. Please know that all incoming donations will be used towards our new program for girls. We have also created a new project page in case you would like to shift your support there.
While the format of our work may evolve, our purpose remains rooted in the belief that Afghan children deserve access to learning, dignity, and hope.
With gratitude,
Freshta Karim
