Quarterly Update: Support 2000 Students in Cambodia
June – August 2025
In rural Cambodia, the road to education is often a long one — sometimes literally. For many children, especially girls, the journey to school can be unsafe, expensive, or disrupted by events far beyond their control. This past quarter, your support helped ensure that dozens of vulnerable students stayed in school despite the dual pressures of border conflict, displacement, and growing economic hardship.
Thanks to your generosity, 48 students in Siem Reap Province continued their education with the tools, bicycles, and support they needed. Two-thirds of them were girls — a deliberate step toward educational equity.
Key Highlights This Quarter
Student Story: Sokha’s New Path
Sokha (a pseudonym) is a 13-year-old student in grade 7 who lives in a remote village in Svay Leu District. Every day, she used to walk nearly an hour each way to reach school. During the rainy season, the road became muddy and dangerous, and her attendance started to slip. This quarter, Sokha received a new bicycle and a full set of learning materials through your support. “Now I can get to school faster and not worry about missing class,” she shared with a bright smile. Her attendance is now regular, and she’s looking forward to sitting her exams with confidence.
Sokha’s story is just one among many. A single bicycle can turn the daily struggle for education into a smooth ride toward a brighter future.
Challenges We Faced and How We Responded
1. Border Conflict Displacement: When fighting near the Thailand–Cambodia border displaced students living in Khmer boarding schools, their education was suddenly at risk. Within days, we coordinated with the Ministry of Education and local partners to identify affected students and deliver emergency learning kits.
=> Impact: All 18 displaced students (15 girls) were quickly placed in safe host schools, enabling them to continue their studies and sit their exams on time - a critical success in a crisis situation.
2. Rising Economic Hardship: For many families, the rising cost of daily transportation and basic school supplies pushes education out of reach. Working with the National Education Policy network and local school committees, we identified at-risk students early and acted fast.
=> Impact: 30 vulnerable students (17 girls) received bicycles and essential learning kits, removing key barriers to attendance and helping them stay in school consistently.
Community Ownership and Systems Engagement
This quarter’s achievements were powered not just by external support, but by local resilience and leadership.
This shared ownership is what makes the change sustainable.
Why Your Support Matters
Every child deserves a fair chance to learn, no matter where they live or what challenges they face. By scaling up proven interventions like bicycle distribution and learning kits, combined with strong partnerships with government and communities, we can keep more children, especially girls, in school and thriving.
Looking Ahead
In the coming quarter, we aim to expand support to more remote schools and deepen coordination with education authorities to make emergency response mechanisms faster and more inclusive. With your kind support, even more children like Sokha will be able to stay in school and achieve their dreams.
Your contributions make this possible. Invest today to help a child reach their classroom tomorrow. Together, we’re keeping education within reach for 2,000 students in rural Cambodia.
