Our dear donors,
Here at Ngamba Island, the lush greenery and playful calls of chimpanzees are a daily reminder of what your support makes possible. Because of you, 54 orphaned and rescued chimpanzees are not just surviving; they are thriving in a safe and caring sanctuary. We want to share the incredible impact you've had over the last three months.
Your Gift in Action: Ensuring a Future of Good Health
This July, your generosity funded our most critical annual event: comprehensive health examinations for every single chimpanzee. For three weeks, a dedicated team of veterinarians, staff, and volunteers worked to give each chimp a thorough check-up.
Thanks to this proactive care, we are thrilled to report that all 54 chimpanzees were given a clean bill of health! This outstanding result is a direct testament to the quality of care, nutrition, and environment that your donations provide. You also funded a crucial procedural update: a minor surgery to secure contraceptive implants, ensuring the long-term health management of our female chimps.
Keeping Brilliant Minds Engaged and Active
Your support does more than just care for their physical health; it stimulates their incredible intelligence. This quarter, we collaborated with a primatology researcher on a non-invasive study of chimp behaviour. For the 23 chimps who participated, this was not just a study—it was a fantastic source of enrichment, challenging their problem-solving skills and keeping their minds sharp. These sessions provide vital mental stimulation, preventing boredom and enriching their daily lives. We can't wait to share the fascinating results with you in our next update!
Building a Secure and Lasting Home
A safe haven requires constant care. Thanks to you, we were able to complete vital infrastructure improvements. We re-roofed the section above our medical ward to protect its solar power supply, ensuring our life-saving equipment is always ready. The ward also received a fresh coat of paint, creating a cleaner, brighter space for any chimp needing temporary isolated care.
We also want to share a story of how our community steps up when we need it most. When our old welding generator broke down, a generous donor immediately replaced it with a new, more powerful model. This gift was a game-changer for our maintenance team, allowing them to continue their essential work without delay. A heartfelt thank you to this donor for their timely and impactful support!
Looking Ahead: The Next Critical Step
While we celebrate these successes, our work to provide the best possible care never stops. Our next major project is the complete refurbishment of our veterinary clinic. Our current clinic has served us well, but to meet the future health challenges of our aging chimp population, we need to upgrade our facilities.
Will you help us build a foundation of health that will last for years to come?
Your continued support will help us create a state-of-the-art clinic to ensure our chimpanzees receive the absolute best medical care possible.
Thank you for being a vital part of our community and for your deep commitment to the chimpanzees. None of this would be possible without you.
With immense gratitude,
The Team at Chimpanzee Trust
