Background
The Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities project was conceived in response to the persistent barriers faced by children with disabilities in accessing quality education. Many of these children come from extremely vulnerable households affected by poverty, social exclusion, and limited access to basic services. As a result, school attendance and retention among children with disabilities in the target community remains very low.
The project aims to promote inclusive education by supporting children with disabilities to enroll, remain, and succeed in school through educational support, community awareness, and economic empowerment of their families.
Project Status
Due to limited funding, full implementation of the project has not yet commenced. The organization is still in the process of mobilizing resources and engaging donors and well-wishers to support the education-related components of the project, including school fees, learning materials, assistive devices, and inclusive learning support.
Interim Support Activities
Despite the funding constraints, the organization recognized the urgent needs of the beneficiary families, particularly the severe levels of poverty affecting children with disabilities. With the limited funds available, a small-scale livelihood support initiative was implemented as an interim measure.
A total of 25 children with disabilities were supported through the provision of pigs to their households. This initiative was designed to help families generate income through pig rearing and sales. The income earned is expected to contribute to meeting basic household needs and to support future education-related expenses for the children as the project awaits full funding.
Outcomes Achieved So Far
25 children with disabilities have received pigs as a source of livelihood support.
Families have gained an opportunity to improve household income and economic stability.
The intervention has helped reduce immediate financial pressure on households while long-term educational support is being sought.
Challenges
Limited financial resources have delayed full project implementation.
Many beneficiary families continue to face extreme poverty, which affects children’s readiness to enroll in school.
Lack of adequate donor funding for inclusive education interventions remains the primary constraint.
Way Forward
The organization remains committed to implementing the Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities project in full. Efforts are ongoing to engage donors, partners, and well-wishers to secure the necessary funding. Once resources are mobilized, the project will focus on enrolling supported children into schools, providing learning materials, and promoting inclusive education practices within the community.
In the meantime, the organization will continue monitoring the livelihood support provided and offering guidance to beneficiary families to ensure sustainability and positive outcomes for the children.
