Advanced Diabetic Foot Clinic: Protecting Limbs and Saving Lives in Northern Syria!

By Baraa Ali | Fundraising Officer

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your generous contributions and continued trust. Because of your support, SEMA is able to sustain and advance life-saving medical services for some of the most vulnerable patients in northern Syria. One of the most impactful initiatives you have helped make possible is the Diabetic Foot Clinic at the Specialized Surgical Hospital in Idlib—a pioneering medical service dedicated to preventing disability and saving lives.

Update & Impact:

The Diabetic Foot Clinic is one of the few specialized facilities of its kind in Syria, providing advanced care for patients suffering from serious diabetic foot complications—among the most dangerous and difficult conditions to treat. The clinic receives diabetic patients with a wide range of conditions, including infections, poor blood circulation, and chronic ulcers.

Since its establishment, the clinic has significantly reduced the number of lower- and above-knee amputations through early intervention, precise medical expertise, and a comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment approach. Many patients who once faced inevitable amputation are now recovering and preserving their mobility.

Due to the rarity and high level of specialization of these services, the clinic has become a referral center for patients from multiple Syrian governorates. It regularly handles severe and complex cases that were previously considered untreatable.

Dr. Rabee, the clinic supervisor, emphasizes the importance of early detection and follow-up, stating:

“Early screening and treatment can often prevent the need for any surgical intervention. Delayed care, however, may lead to complex surgeries lasting months, and in some cases, the loss of a limb.”

Conclusion & Gratitude:

This clinic represents a powerful model of disability prevention and specialized medical care, protecting not only limbs but also dignity, independence, and quality of life for people living with diabetes. None of this would be possible without your compassion and commitment.

On behalf of the medical teams and patients whose lives have been changed, thank you for standing with us. Your support is truly saving limbs—and lives—every day.

With sincere gratitude,
