Project Report | Jan 9, 2026
Progress report end of 2025

By Alejandro Morales | Project leader

As 2025 closes, ARCAS continues to strive for the orphaned, injured, sick and abused animals. Our unwavering goal of releasing back to nature and giving the species a chance to endure the human effects is strong and growing.

We want to thank you for your constant support and for coming to the aid of those in need. Our hands are on the front line of work, but they are supported and inspired by people all around the world.

In our first year as co-administrators of El Rosario National Park, we conducted a long-term biodiversity study, finding out that the park has much more than anyone suspected but also has many more threats. We are now working to minimize those threats and preserve this remnant of biodiversity in the south of Petén.

At the rescue center:

  • We were able to aid and assist over 250 wild animals.
  • Perform over 800 physical exams to ensure their wellbeing.
  • Conduct 4 behavioral studies to evaluate the chances of reintroduction for the ones in advanced stages of rehabilitation.
  • Concluded the tracking of the macaws released in 2024, with yet again a high rate of survival (more than 60%).
  • Released almost 200 animals that successfully went through the rehabilitation process.
  • And finished the year with a very successful nesting season in our macaw reproduction program! 14 new macaws!

We are proud of the progress made this year, but our work is far from over. The challenges facing wildlife in Guatemala are constant, the funds are scarce, the needs are many, but the mission stands. Wildlife deserves a second chance.

Together, we can create a future where wildlife thrives and ecosystems are restored. Thank you for your ongoing support of ARCAS and for being part of this vital conservation movement.
