This progress update will be very short, as we are inviting you to spend some few minutes reviewing our impact study report, now complete: Women-Led Organic Gardens: A Cost-Effective Approach for Sustained Food Security and Household Resilience in Western Uganda.
UC Berkeley’s Institute for the Study of Societal Issues (ISSI) has published a summary of the report and link to the full report here. The Berkeley Food Institute has included the report as part of its ‘Must-Reads’ series (scroll down) here.
We have prepared a 4-page brochure featuring a summary of the study’s background, methods, results, and recommendations for on-line use and for print (on-line version attached below as pdf).
Our priority for the next few months is local dissemination of the study's findings and recommendations within Kasese District. The program coordinator, Doreen Kansiime, will lead dissemination planning and presentations with communities, local governments, and community-based organizations.
Through presentations and discussion we hope to stimulate interest to adopt and spread the successful methods pioneered in the 1,000 Women’s Gardens within the Rwenzori Region of Western Uganda. Subsequently, we will be disseminating results throughout Uganda, East Africa, and globally.
Many thanks to all of you for supporting the work of 1,000 Women’s Gardens over the last 4 ½ years, transforming the lives of thousands of women and children, including 500 adolescent mothers. We hope many of you will take a few minutes to read the summary of the report; some of you may even be inclined to read the whole report! Thank you!
Warm regards,
Doreen, Robin, Jostas, Rebecca, and Nakisita
