My Birthday Present: A Good Education Please Sir..

By Tyrone Bennett | Leader of Action Change

Hello everyone,

As we move closer to our 20-year anniversary for Action Change in 2026, I’ve been looking back at our work in Phang Nga, Thailand. It’s amazing to see how a project that started as an emergency response has grown into a steady, long-term support system for the community there.

In our last update, we talked a lot about getting the classroom ready—focusing on the essentials like desks, computers, and projectors to make sure the kids had a proper place to learn. I’m so happy to share that the students are now fully settled in. Seeing them at those new desks, focused and excited to use the technology we’ve provided, is a huge reminder of why we do this. It’s not just about the furniture; it’s about giving these children a safe space where they feel respected and ready to dream big.

Over the last few months, our focus has expanded into the "Safe Space" outside the classroom too. The community garden we’ve been working on is becoming a real hub. It’s not just growing food; it’s growing a sense of belonging for the youth who spend their afternoons there instead of on the streets. Our community teacher has been a total rockstar, bridging the gap between education and life skills for these kids.

Looking ahead, we are gearing up for a big push on health and hygiene. Living in these communities can be tough, and preventable illnesses often keep kids out of school. We’re planning a series of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) workshops to teach basic health practices. Our goal is to provide hygiene packs for 200 community members—something as simple as soap, toothbrushes, and clean towels can make a massive difference in keeping a family healthy.

This brings me to some great timing. The GlobalGiving "Little by Little" campaign is happening from March 17th to the 20th.

This is the perfect moment to support our work in Thailand because any donation up to $50 will be matched at 50%.

  • $10 provides healthcare kits for 3 children.

  • $20 gets tools for the community garden.

  • $50 funds a brand-new desk for a student (and with the match, that becomes $75 toward our community teacher!).

If you can, please save the date. These small, steady contributions are exactly what keep our programs in Phang Nga running year-round. Together, we’re making sure these kids have the resources, the health, and the safe environment they need to break the cycle of poverty for good.

Thank you for being part of this journey for two decades. We couldn't do it without you!
