Linking Paths: Fostering Resilience and Integration for Mixed Migrant Children in Colombia

By IsraAID Staff | IsraAID Colombia

Over the past year, IsraAID Colombia's "Linking Paths" program has made significant strides in strengthening the well-being and resilience of mixed migrant children and youth in Barranquilla, Soledad, and Cartagena. The program focuses on strengthening protection mechanisms; increasing children's access to formal education and strengthening schools' capacities to address inclusive education; and cultivating integration, leadership, and dialogue between migrants and local community members. The program's core lies in its Friendly Spaces (Espacios Protectores), vibrant hubs offering a plethora of services to both children and their caregivers. These spaces serve as a vital thread connecting the community, educational programs, arts and sports activities, and indispensable support groups for caregivers.

In 2023, "Linking Paths"  directly supported over 3,000 individuals and indirectly reached a further 17,000, demonstrating the program's powerful ripple effect throughout the community.  70% of children participating in the program successfully completed at least one of the three-month cycles, while 72% witnessed an increase in their academic skills. By investing in caregiver training, "Linking Paths" equipped 14 individuals with positive parenting and stress management skills, further enhancing the program's impact.  Additionally, the program facilitated 55 community integration activities, engaging 787 children and broader community members in expressive arts, sports, and anti-xenophobia initiatives.

IsraAID Colombia's "Linking Paths" program exemplifies how a holistic approach can profoundly impact the lives of vulnerable children and the broader community. By addressing both immediate needs and long-term sustainability, the program paves the way for a more resilient and inclusive future for all. As we reflect on the success of this year, we are also learning valuable lessons in preparation for the year ahead. We are proud to continue to support these communities, and we thank you for your generosity which enables us to do so!
