This quarter, at Kampala Music School, we celebrate the journey of 2 bursary students that are pouring their heart and effort into excelling as young musicians, but also finding joy in teaching and encouraging other musicians to grow.
Meet Jimmy
Instrument: Piano
Level: ARSM
When asked about his musical journey with the Kampala Music School, Jimmy humbly but excitedly expressed how proud he was of what he had achieved so far. “I am proud of the fact that I can be able to accompany different people and singers as a pianist. My greatest joy is being able to take part in school activities and help raise other young musicians.”
Jimmy has been consistently progressing as a student over the past few months, practicing regularly. He has gained much experience on piano through accompanying various ensembles as well as instruction of students of different learning levels up to ABRSM Grade 5.
Having taken on ‘4 hands’ and ‘2 pianos’ repertoire to widen the scope of experience at ensemble playing, this has enabled him learn a range of playing techniques. Join us as we celebrate Jimmy for passing his Performance Diploma exam, ARSM (Associate of the Royal Schools of Music) in April 2025 with a very high merit.
Meet Joy
Instrument: Voice
Level: ABRSM Grade 7
If not found on a wide stage before a magnificent audience, Joy’s happy place is singing and inspiring young children in discovering their musical potential. She will be found rolling on the floor and running around in circles with the kids during the KMS musical camps in order to get the best vocal tone out of them, in the most fun way.
Joy is a soprano with versatile performance styles. She is building repertoire and has been doing auditions for various acts in different musicals. She recently played the role of Christine Dae in Phantom of the Opera at the local theatre in Uganda. Her performances were superbly received by the audience. She is a very convincing actress, dancer and singer!
She is working on building her repertoire in foreign languages, French, Italian and German in order to equip her with the necessary skills for more advanced repertoire. She has been very instrumental leading the voices classes with the children in the Summer camp programmes at Kampala Music School.
