A Crossroads for Our Community

By Debbie | Volunteer

Hi friends,

I’m writing to you today with a heavy heart, but also with a necessary sense of realism. We’ve always promised to be honest about the journey of supporting street children in Uganda, and right now, that journey has reached a critical crossroads.

To be completely transparent: we aren't sure why this program has been so difficult to fund. Despite the clear and urgent need on the streets, the donations required to keep this mission moving forward simply haven't materialized as we hoped. We’ve reached a point where we can no longer build a sustainable, long-term plan on the funds raised so far. It’s a difficult reality to face when so many children are relying on the small moments of joy and safety we provide.

The 2026 Plan: Our Final Push

Because we believe so deeply in these kids, we aren’t ready to walk away just yet. However, we also cannot continue in a state of constant uncertainty. We have decided on the following:

  • The Six-Month Window: Starting now, we are giving ourselves six months to revitalize our funding and prove this program's sustainability.

  • The Goal: We need to reach a baseline of consistent support that allows us to move beyond "survival mode" and toward the dedicated center these children deserve.

  • The Hard Truth: If we cannot reach a sustainable level of funding by the end of this period, we will have to admit defeat and begin the process of closing this community program down.

Why We’re Giving It One Last Try

Every day, our team sees the impact of a hot meal, a music session, or a simple conversation. We see the hope that flickers in a child’s eyes when they realize they haven't been forgotten. We owe it to them—and to those of you who have stood by us—to give this one last, concentrated effort.

How you can help right now:

  1. Direct Support: Even small, monthly commitments help us show "sustainability" to larger donors.

  2. Advocacy: Share our GlobalGiving page with your network. Sometimes the right donor just hasn't heard our story yet.

  3. Feedback: If you have ideas on how we can better share our mission or reach new audiences, please reach out.

We want to keep hope alive, but we need the resources to back it up. Thank you for being with us through the highs and the very real lows.

With gratitude and hope,

Debbie
