Hope for Justice Lighthouses in Ethiopia's capital city, Addis Ababa, offer a place of safety and healing for child survivors of trafficking and those most vulnerable to being targeted. In the Lighthouses, children get critical services such as healthcare, catch-up education, psychosocial support and life skills, before we seek to safely reintegrate them into families and communities. With your help, we can reunite more children with their families and give each child the care they need.
Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity, causing unimaginable emotional and physical suffering to millions of people across the globe. In Ethiopia, this human rights violation is highly prevalent, and it is estimated that as many as 16 million Ethiopian children are engaged in forced labour.
To address the horrendous consequences human trafficking (HT), Hope for Justice operates two Transitional Centres called 'Lighthouses' - one for boys and one for girls - in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where we provide holistic aftercare and reintegration support services for children who have recently been identified as victims of HT and moved away from exploitation. In 2023-24, Hope for Justice supported 808 children across our Lighthouses in Ethiopia and 780 children were placed in reintegration.
To ensure a holistic approach towards the restoration of child survivors, our Lighthouses provide the following services: Water and nutritious meals, safe shelter, medical care, psycho-social support, legal support, catch-up education, vocational training and business skills, life skills workshops, sports and recreational activities. Following their stay in the Lighthouse, survivors are reintegrated into family-based care, providing families with short- and long-term support.
