Hi there!
This month we achieved something huge in Nicaragua!
When we started our projects in Nicaragua we started them in two brand new villages that were completely unrecognised by the Government. The communities were living in tents made out of a plastic sheeting and a tree branch holding it up and being unrecognised, did not have any facilities, health support or, of course, education.
Whilst the communties fought to be recognised by the Government and get help we sought donations from generous donors like yourself and set up two schools, first in La Thompson and then in Alexis Arguello. The schools supported the children of the communities and the children thrived in the schools. Over time, the Governent started to recognised the communties and put in previsions for support.
As you know, our ultimate aim for the projects is sustainability and earlier this year we approached the Ministry of Education in Nicaragua to see if they would like to take our school, make it a national school and continue providing the education in the village. They agreed and in August they have taken over the costs of Alexis Arguello, making it sustainable and helping us reach our goal!
So, as our supporters, you have seen a community go from no education, to having a full, narional school, providing top notch official education. We started with nothing but with your support we have, built classrooms, a kitchen, provided teachers and educated a community. Now, the Government will continue that, using our teachers and keeping our students learning! What a success!
We are continuing with our school in La Thompson and of course need continued donations to help that school become sustainable too. Thank you so much for helping us achieve this.
