Renewable Energy for Improving Rural Healthcare

I wanted to share where we’re at with our climateandhealth initiative in Nepal and what’s coming next.

The link between climate change and health is getting clearer every day in Nepal. As temperatures rise, glaciers retreat, weather patterns shift and water and sanitation systems under strain, people are paying the price. 

We’ve been focusing our work in rural, offgrid communities where the health burden is highest and the resources are lowest. We’re helping with cleaner energy (which translates to fewer indoor pollutants), better access to care and stronger climate resilience at the same time. 

What’s happening now:

• We’ve identified new communities that are eager to partner with us and start the next phase of the programme.

• We’re preparing to expand our renewable energy & health systems work so that people have safer homes, better cooking stoves, improved air quality and stronger resilience to climate stress.

• We’re also building capacity locally so that changes can last beyond our direct intervention.

What we still need:
The funds we have raised so far have kept the groundwork going, but to scale the next phase we need more support. That means more equipment, training, materials, and local followup to make the real leaps we know are possible.
Because when you help stabilise the link between climate and health, you help someone live a healthier life, eliminate avoidable illness and give a community a stronger future.

Hi everyone,

We’re back with a quick and exciting update on how things are going with our project in Nepal—and how your support is making a real difference.

Over the past few months, we’ve been helping rural families and health clinics in the Surkhet District access solar lighting, fans, vaccine fridges, and cleaner cookstoves. It might not sound fancy, but it’s been life-changing. These upgrades mean fewer harmful fumes in homes, clinics that can store vaccines safely, and people who can finally breathe easier—literally.

Thanks to your generosity, we’ve raised just over $2,600 USD so far. It’s helping us take small but meaningful steps to tackle climate change and improve people’s health at the same time.

In other exciting news, more hospitals in Nepal are getting involved. A team on the ground has been training healthcare workers to manage waste better, use energy wisely, and make sure their clinics are climate-smart. No more open burning of hospital waste, and a lot more focus on clean water, sanitation, and energy systems that keep working even during blackouts.

One workshop even focused on something we don’t talk about enough—how climate change affects mental health, especially in rural communities. It's such an important angle, and it’s great to see professionals getting tools to respond.

All this just goes to show: your support is part of something bigger. Bit by bit, we’re building stronger, cleaner, more resilient health systems.
