Project Update: next steps (Q2 2025)

By Stuart Patience | Board Member

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for your support over the past few months! Because of you, we can keep training teachers and sending books to schools: helping Indonesian children grow up with a love for reading.

Welcome
A lot has happened in the past few months. An exciting change is that we’ve been able to welcome 3 new (part-time) team members. This is a big encouragement for our team, not only because it shows growth, but also because it allows us to do more of the work that really matters: training teachers, supporting schools, and getting good books into the hands of children. And just two weeks ago, two of them already got a taste of the reality on the ground by joining a local training of our team in a nearby city.

NTT - Pesta Literasi
At the same time, we’re getting ready to celebrate all the hard work in the Timor Suka Membaca project, now in its second year as part of a larger project in the east of Indonesia, led by our team in the Kupang office. Dozens of teachers will celebrate the progress they’ve made this year together with their students. During the Pesta Literasi (Literacy Celebration), students will showcase what they’ve learned through reading performances, games, and activities. It’s a joyful moment to celebrate learning, encourage reading, and strengthen the connection between schools, teachers, and the wider community. Watch the documentary from last year of this project here (click for link).

Expanding our network
Once again, thank you for supporting Saya Suka Membaca, we couldn’t do this important work without you! Feel free to share this update with anyone who might be interested in supporting literacy in Indonesia. We’d love to connect with new people or organisations who want to help us grow and reach more children.

Ayo! Suka Membaca!
