Teach 400 Indigenous Children: Justice in Colombia

Children from indigenous communities have strengthened their training in radio journalism and are actively collaborating with their radio shows on the indigenous radio station "Positiva Estéreo" and on various school radio stations. In their radio shows, children talk about their rights, how they are violated or ignored by society and the state. They denounce mistreatment of nature and the consequences of climate change, such as the drought that communities have suffered in recent months.

Children propose that relationships in families should change: no to machismo, no to gender violence, no to child abuse. Children denounce problems that their communities experience, such as the lack of drinking water, sewage, housing, schools. They have strengthened their self-esteem. They know that they have rights and that they have the power to defend them and make them a reality.

Zenu indigenous children are beginning to bridge the technological gap by learning to produce their own videos and other content for social networks. In videos made with smartphones, they present a vision of the reality experienced by the majority of children in their regions: mistreatment, physical and psychological abuse, hunger and malnutrition, low self-esteem, fears and lack of communication.
Beginning to break down these barriers established by traditional culture is a great step forward for children participating in the project who already know their rights, feel empowered to promote and defend them and know how to say NO to attempts at abuse and violence against them by adults around them.
Children in the project use media such as radio. They participate in school radio stations, indigenous and community radio stations.
