Teaching Reading in Poor Communities in Jakarta

Dear Supporters,

A few months ago, we did not yet know that such a significant change was coming. But when we ‘suddenly’ found a new office space, we were given the opportunity to partner with a local community centre and come closer to our roots again: serving underprivileged children in urban areas.

In this new office, the upper floor of the building is now used for the work of Yayasan Tunas Aksara, while most of the ground floor is dedicated to reading classes (with our material) for children from the neighbourhood. Through this new location, we can see firsthand how our materials are used and provide direct mentoring to the local volunteers as the children learn.

We have only just moved in and are still in the process of getting everything fully operational. In our next update, we hope to share more photos so you can get a better impression of the new space.

We are also grateful that a number of new partnership opportunities have opened up in training volunteers who support children from underprivileged families. At the same time, it is always a challenge to secure sufficient funding to sustain this work.
