During 2018 we launched The Girl Impact fundrasier to be able to enroll 14 women from different Cape Town organisations in an Art Therapy Facilitator Training. The concept of art therapy entails the making of art as a form to improve one's mental and emotional well-being. It has been shown that an arts-on prescription project can result in a 37% drop in GP consultation rates and a 27% reduction in hospital admissions, as well as alleviate anxiety, depression and stress while increasing resilience and well being.
Donations to this project will enable these 14 women to benefit from the training and for art therapy to be introduced into their workplaces. This training will not just benefit the direct beneficiaries; the participants will be able to use these new acquired skills to educate the hundreds of kids from disadvantaged communities around Cape Town who they work with on a daily basis. We are aiming for the training program to be fully funded early next year with training scheduled shortly after.
Over the past quarter, we have been hosting art therapy courses at Sonwabile twice a week. We have found the students to absolutely love expressing themselves through the outlet of art. We are able to host conversations around The Girl Impact six pillars while then after students can express their learnings and feelings through the medium of art.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the cause so far. We are so excited to fully fund this project so we can make a huge impact not only on 14 women, but as well as their organizaitons and every person that comes through their door.
