By Juan Pablo Hurtado | Project Leader
Hi there,
I want to share with you a touching story that shows the heart of the work you’re supporting through our The Southernmost Winter in Chile project.
In the heart of Magallanes, at Balmaceda 736, Camila is part of the Hogar de Cristo team that shows up every day for people facing homelessness in one of the coldest places on Earth. For her, this building is much more than a workplace — it’s a space full of history, meaning, and human encounters.
Camila speaks about Balmaceda 736 as a place where dignity is built through daily gestures: welcoming people by name, sharing a warm meal, listening to life stories, and making sure no one is left alone to face the southern winter. Her work is driven by empathy and commitment, even when the cold is intense and the challenges are constant.
Thanks to your support, teams like Camila’s can continue offering warmth, shelter, and human connection to people who survive extreme conditions in the far south of Chile. This work is not only about protecting bodies from the cold — it’s about restoring dignity, trust, and hope.

Thank you for making this work possible, and for standing with those who face the harshest winters with courage and resilience..
