Training #MenEndFGM Champions in Kenya

Team #MenEndFGM is happy to announce that with your support we successfully carried out our first male champions training in Meru County, Kenya on 26th to 28th August 2020. The three days training targeted 20 male champions and 5 women. The participants included elders, pastors, local administration, teachers, youth representatives and activists from Nyambene of Meru County.

According to Kenya [i]Demographic and Health Survey (KDHs) 2014 this community has the fifth highest prevalence of FGM in Kenya at 31% against the National prevalence of 21%

Dear Supporters/Partners,

Thank you so much for the continued support in our fundraiser. Men End FGM Movement is truly blessed to have you as partners and supporters in our quest to train male end FGM champions across Kenya. We received your donations through GlobalGiving in April 2020. The money raised was enough to train at least 22 male champions in one of the FGM hotspot Counties in Kenya as per our budget attached to the fundraiser. 

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 pandemic we have not been able to carry out the training yet. The government of Kenya banned all public gatherings, closed schools and places of worship as well as put parts of the country in partial lockdown as measures to curb the spread of the virus. On 6th July 2020 the president announced plans to slowly re-open the country. This was after 100 days of partial lockdown.

Currently, restricted movement from one County to another has been lifted and there plans to re-open places of worship. Public gatherings remain banned and schools remain closed. As we await the lifting of ban on public gatherings we continue to plan our trainings and do proposals to organizations/partners that may be interested in partnering with us in this cause. We also appeal for your continued support as we are still a long way in meeting our fundraiser target to actualize the training of 440 male end FGM Champions across Kenya.

Our organization remains committed in fighting the spread of COVID-19 and as such we will adhere to all government guidelines. Meanwhile we are continuing our other advocacy work through online campaigns and the use of vernacular radio and TV stations to sensitize our communities.
