Meet 7-year-old Birtukan, a joyful child who loves playing and reading with her siblings. Over the past year, Birtukan struggled with blurry vision until she received a life-changing pair of glasses at her school's Orbis screening in November, free of charge. Now, with healthy vision and renewed hope, Birtukan and many more children can confidently return to school this September.
In our most recent report we introduced you to Amseselech, a dedicated elementary school teacher - and also Birtukan's teacher. Thanks to the Orbis Teacher Training, Amarech recognised Birtukan's struggle with her vision and referred her for screening. This early intervention made a significant impact on Birtukan's life.
Thanks to dedicated teachers like Amarech and your continued support, more children in Ethiopia are receiving the eye care they urgently need. However, the lack of basic eye care remains a crisis for many others.
Your kindness and the commitment of our partners ensure that children receive the treatment they deserve to see clearly and thrive throughout their childhood.
