Teachers are among our many heroes at Orbis. To help tackle the spread of avoidable diseases, Orbis trains teachers to recognise early signs of eye conditions in their students. Derguwas delighted to receive Orbis eye-care training, which now enables himto identify potential issues affecting her students’ vision. He refers numerous children to local health centres and actively advocates for eye health within his community, reaching many more people beyond the school gates.Additionally, in school eye clubs, Dergu teaches children in an engaging way how to take care of their eyes and why eye care is so important.
Children’s education is profoundly shaped by their vision. Those with poor eyesight often struggle to read or see the blackboard. Over time, they can become discouraged and may even stop attending school because they can no longer keep up. Early screening is the most sustainable and effective way of addressing childhood blindness. That’s why Orbis develops integrated eye-health programmes in schools, ensuring that all children are screened for visual impairment and, where needed, receive glasses, treatment or surgery.
Thanks to your support, Orbis can continue empowering teachers, protecting children’s sight, and ensuring that every child has the chance to learn, thrive and reach their full potential.
