Your support is opening minds, building skills, and shaping a new generation of Afghan boys and young men who are choosing respect, empathy, and equality.
Thanks to you, students in the Men as Partners in Change program are gaining far more than academic knowledge, they’re learning how to become thoughtful leaders in their homes and communities. In classrooms where fractions and algebra are taught alongside lessons on conflict resolution and gender roles, boys are developing both the intellectual and emotional tools they need to build a more peaceful and fair Afghanistan.
As Sulayman put it, “I used to think being strong meant being tough. But now I know real strength is about respect.”
Program Updates: Math + Mindset
April was a month of real growth, both academically and emotionally. In math, students tackled complex concepts including fractions, decimals, and basic algebra. Through a step-by-step approach filled with examples and practice exercises, they learned how to convert between fractions and decimals (even repeating ones), and perform all four operations with both. By the end of the month, students were introduced to algebraic expressions, laying a foundation for more advanced math ahead.
Meanwhile, in the life skills sessions, students explored critical topics such as anger management, conflict resolution, domestic violence, and gender roles. The curriculum encouraged open discussion, respectful disagreement, and honest self-reflection. Boys learned about the dangers of rigid gender stereotypes, harmful ideas about male honor, and even cultural practices like Bach Posh—where girls present as boys to gain access to rights and opportunities.
“I used to argue a lot with my sister and brother,” said Hedayatullah, another student. “Now I try to speak calmly. We get along better.”
At the end of the month, students took a math test and completed group reviews in both subjects. Across the cohort, we observed growing confidence, increased participation, and improved critical thinking—a reflection of how deeply students are engaging with the content.
The Impact: Rewriting Narratives
In a society where boys are rarely taught to question gender roles or express emotions, this program is creating space for new ways of thinking.
Students are now better at managing anger, solving conflicts without violence, and recognizing the importance of listening, understanding, and cooperation. They’re beginning to challenge traditional ideas of masculinity and seeing themselves as part of the solution, especially when it comes to ending domestic violence and building safer homes.
They’re also improving in school. Math, often a source of frustration, has become a subject where boys are not just surviving, but excelling. For students like Hedayatullah, who once stayed silent during math lessons, the program has been transformative. “I was so happy when I could solve problems by myself,” he said proudly.
The lessons learned here ripple outward: into families, friendships, and future relationships. These boys are becoming better students—and better brothers, sons, and future fathers.
Why Your Support Matters
Your support makes it possible for Sahar Education to reach Afghan boys with a message that’s as urgent as it is rare: that real strength lies in compassion, communication, and respect.
In a society recovering from conflict and navigating extreme gender-based restrictions, the program gives boys the chance to grow into responsible, empathetic men. By combining core math skills with life-changing social education, we are equipping them to be part of long-term, sustainable change.
You’re not just funding a classroom—you’re nurturing a movement.
Thank you for investing in the future of Afghanistan and for helping us raise the kind of leaders the world needs more of.
With deep gratitude,
The Sahar Education Team
