Summary

This project will transform lives of children in Rwanda through personal development and education programs. Every year, Root Foundation empowers 450 less privileged children by giving them chance to develop talent and life-skills. Moreover, our safe space creates a welcoming environment to identify, develop and full-fill their potential. With the tools of music, dance, art and sports, we are able to empower less privileged children and reduce the number of street children.

Challenge

In 2012, up to 7000 children were staying on the street. Root Foundation started to work on reducing the number of street children as well as preventing many others who are at high risks of ending up on the street. The community we serve includes orphans and also children whose parents are poor due to their education background or unplanned marriage. This affect a child as he/she doesn't get basic needs like food, water, clothes, education, etc hence children choose to go on the street to beg.

Solution

This project aims to provide a safe space, human and other needed resources to give these children chance to express themselves, feel welcomed, and a learning environment. This project will allow the total number of 450 to join our personal development and education program for a full year. As it has been a challenge to sustain our annual budget, it affects our children's participation and growth. With this project, the children will development themselves and advance their academic as well.

Long-Term Impact

Every child deserves a safe place to grow emotionally, socially, and mentally. At Root Foundation, we emphasis an environment that supports children's personal growth - ranging from extracurricular activities to strong character development - and that encourages children to become valuable contributors and valued members in the community. This project will help all children to get a safe and welcoming space and benefit as they advance their studies. It will also inspire next generation.
