Out of Kenya's 47 counties, Turkana is the poorest, with 88% of its population living below the poverty line. Workers in extreme poverty struggle to invest in safe living conditions, child education, and necessary healthcare which produces the next generation of economic opportunity, so widespread household poverty creates an intergenerational barrier to broad-based economic development.
Imani is working to initiate Phase 2 of a project that will expand their operations and provide a wealth of new opportunities for local empowerment. This phase would see the construction of a workshop housing 22 new artisan workstations, as well as new bathrooms with running water and a handwashing station for improved sanitation.
It would entail the creation of 120+ jobs that will impact over 300 local families and includes weekly food distribution to the community as well. By bringing more skilled workers into Kenya's workforce, the country's population will be able to support and employ one another, improve their living standards and drive progress towards the creation of a sustained and inclusive economy for Kenya.
